My Freedom Rocks Disaster

When I first joined Freedom Rocks in March 2006 it seemed like the best thing since the invention of sliced bread. It took very little effort to learn and implement their foreign exchange trading system, and only about 1/2 hour per week to maintain it. And the best part, of course, was everyone was getting stellar returns. Back then Mark, the owner and inventor of the system, was using 12.5% margin and traded the Eur/Usd, Gbp/Usd and Usd/Chf pairings. Using that configuration he managed to more than double his money over a year and everyone was pumped about the results.

You know what they say, though, all good things must come to an end. Despite following his lead but with reduced margin I got wiped out. Here's what happened.

In October 2007 I started with $20,000 capital and set up my account to trade the same pairs as Mark. The only difference was I used 8.5% margin (less margin used = less risk). It didn't take long, however, for my account to start dropping in value in a big time way. Thinking that it was just a temporary thing and that there was nothing to worry about, I wasn't too concerned. It would turn around, I kept telling myself. Well, it didn't. The account value kept dropping, so much so that I added another $8,000 just to make sure I wouldn't get a margin call.

What happened? It kept dropping and dropping and finally I got that dreaded notice - my account got a margin call. Bam! $28,000 down the drain because I was following a system that was supposed to be bullet-proof. Not so, the reality is the system simply doesn't work. Of course, the good old network marketing guys involved with Freedom Rocks will say it's not the fault of the system, you should have used less margin, blah blah blah, but the only reason they say that is because they're trying to protect their incomes. 

The reality is the Freedom Rocks system depends on stable reciprocal relationships and the sad truth is there are no stable reciprocal relationships in the foreign exchange market. Period. End of story. It cost me $28,000 to find that out.

If you're tempted to try the Freedom Rocks system, then save yourself the monthly fee. Here is a simple system you can follow. Try it in a demo account, of course, until you fully grasp the mechanics and how easy it is. Buy the same amount of Eur/Usd as you do Usd/Chf. Then set up buys & sells 75 pips higher & lower than the current price for each. The buys & sells should be $1,000 for each $50,000 held. In other words, if you buy $200,000 of each then you'd set up a buy & sell of $4,000 if either currency moves by 75 basis points. Go ahead, try it, doing something as simple as this you'll get pretty much the same effect as the Freedom Rocks system except you'll save yourself the $100 monthly fee.
